Description
Dean graduated from Auckland Medical School in 1999 and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2009.
Dean underwent extensive subspecialty training in spine surgery at both the Spinal Unit at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and at the British Columbia Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, Canada. He returned home to Auckland where he has been in practice since 2013.
Dean has interests in all aspects of spinal pathology and treatment, both operative and non-operative. He performs procedures on lumbar, thoracic and cervical spine pathology such as microdiscectomy, open and minimally invasive instrumented fusions, ACDF, cervical disc replacement and laminoplasty.

Dean is available to see new referrals, and is happy to discuss any patient or issue with you. He is based in Newmarket, 96E Carlton Gore Road, and now holds satellite clinics in Silverdale and Manukau. Dean is able to offer patients surgery at Brightside and Mercy hospitals.

Referral Expectations
You need to bring with you to your appointment:
- your GP, physiotherapist or other healthcare professional referral letter
- any additional letters or reports from your doctor, physiotherapist, previous surgeons or hospitals
- any X-Rays, CT or MRI films and reports
- all medicines you are taking including herbal and natural remedies
- your ACC number, if you have one. Also date of injury, plus ACC referral letter.

Parking and Directions
Some free parking is available in the carpark behind the row of buildings we are part of. Please enter the carpark next 96A and drive to near the end of the parking lot. Look for the signs that say 'Auckland Spine Surgery Centre Patient Parking'. Otherwise there is street parking and a Wilson's carpark at the end of Kingdon Street.
