Description

The North Shore Surgical Centre is a day stay, predominently orthopaedic hospital in Takapuna on Auckland's North Shore. Opened in 2019, the hospital is a joint venture between a group of orthopaedic surgeons and Southern Cross Healthcare.

Located across the road from North Shore Hospital and next to the TRG building on the corner of Shakespeare Road and Thornton Road, this day stay hospital has three operating theatres and performs primarily orthopaedic operations using the latest techniques and state-of-the art equipment.

Patients generally stay for 3-4 hours from their time of admission.  There are no overnight stay beds at this hospital.

Staff

North Shore Surgical Centre currently employs over 60 Registered Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Anaesthetic Technicians, Sterilising Technicians, Administration staff and support services staff.

Surgeons and Anaesthetists who perform surgery and anaesthesia at North Shore Surgical Centre are not employees of the hospital.

Referral

Referral for surgery at North Shore Surgical Centre is via your surgeon, for procedures that may be conducted as day surgery.

Fees and Charges Description

Surgeries may either be covered by ACC, by health insurance or paid by the patient.  Please contact North Shore Surgical Centre if you have any questions relating to payment arrangements.

Hours

6:30 AM to 7:00 PM.

Mon – Fri 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM

The Surgical Centre Reception is open from 6.30am Monday to Friday, excluding Public Holidays.  The facility usually closes around 7pm. 

North Shore Surgical Centre closes over the Christmas break.  This year we are closed from midday Friday 22nd December 2023 and re-open at 8am on Monday 15th January 2024.

Visiting Hours

Patients may have a support person during check-in procedures, and also in the Day Stay area just prior to discharge.  Please discuss your individual requirements with the staff prior to your day of surgery.

Refreshments

Patients are provided with light refreshments prior to discharge.  Please advise the hospital of any special dietary requirements prior to the day of surgery.

Parking

There is 30 minute patient drop-off parking at the rear of the building under the building overhang. Access to the rear of the building is either through the TRG car park via 209 Shakespeare Road entrance or via the first driveway on the right off Thornton Road.  There is 2-hour parking on the adjacent side streets if longer parking is required.

Accommodation

North Shore Surgical Centre is a day stay facility, there are no overnight stay beds at this hospital.

Pharmacy

There is a retail Pharmacy located on the Ground Floor of the building.
