Description
Auckland X-Ray Services (AXS) is a specialist-owned and led practice since 2003.
Auckland X-Ray Services was founded on a straightforward belief: that precision radiology should be within reach for every patient, not just those who can afford a premium price tag.

Services Provided
CT Scanning at Auckland X-Ray Services Our CT suite is equipped with GE Optima™ technology featuring ASiR™ Smart Dose — an advanced imaging system that delivers high-resolution diagnostic clarity while reducing radiation exposure by up to 40% compared to conventional CT. At AXS, we take the ALARA principle seriously: every scan is optimised to use the lowest dose necessary without any compromise to image quality. Every CT report is interpreted by a senior radiologist, drawing on close to a century of combined specialist experience across our team. Practical things worth knowing We're easy to get to — drive straight to our central Auckland clinic with free on-site parking right at the door. No hospital navigation, no parking fees. Our CT Services Brain & Neuro — headaches, dizziness, and structural concerns Chest & Abdomen — detailed cross-sectional views of internal organs Bones & Fractures — high-resolution imaging for complex skeletal injuries KUB (Kidneys & Bladder) — detection of stones and urinary tract conditions Sinus & Facial — precision imaging for chronic conditions or surgical planning Referral Requirements In line with MCNZ guidelines, all CT examinations require a formal referral from a registered GP or medical specialist. What to Expect You'll be asked to remove any metal objects before the scan. You'll lie on a padded table that moves gently into the scanner through a circular opening — the machine itself is open at both ends, though some patients do find the experience slightly confining. During the scan you'll feel nothing, but will be asked to stay still and hold your breath at certain points. A staff member will be in the adjacent control room throughout, monitoring continuously and speaking with you via intercom. Some examinations require a contrast medium to improve image clarity — this may be given orally, by injection, or in some cases rectally. Your referrer or our team will let you know in advance if this applies to you. Most CT scans take around 30 minutes from start to finish.

Ultrasound-Guided Injections at Auckland X-Ray Services An injection is only as effective as its placement. Using real-time ultrasound guidance, our specialists visualise your anatomy as the procedure unfolds — navigating precisely to the source of pain while avoiding surrounding nerves and vessels. The result is more accurate delivery, greater comfort, and better outcomes. Specialist-led, start to finish Every procedure at AXS is performed directly by a senior radiologist with years of experience across both private practice and major Auckland hospitals. You won't see a junior registrar — you'll see the specialist. That means your clinical history gets proper attention, the procedure is unhurried, and you leave understanding exactly what was done and why. We also work closely with your GP or physiotherapist to time the injection appropriately within your rehabilitation plan — because a well-placed injection, at the right moment, is what actually moves recovery forward. Conditions we treat Sports & MSK injuries — bursitis, tendonitis, and acute joint inflammation Osteoarthritis — precision-guided relief for hip, knee, and shoulder pain Hand, wrist & foot conditions — specialist accuracy for complex small-part interventions Diagnostic aspirations — ultrasound-guided fluid sampling for further clinical evaluation

Obstetric & Pregnancy Ultrasound at Auckland X-Ray Services Pregnancy is one of the most significant chapters of your life, and we think the imaging that accompanies it should reflect that. At AXS, our obstetric ultrasounds are performed on Philips EPIQ equipment — the same premium clinical platform used in leading maternity hospitals — delivering extraordinary image resolution at every stage of your pregnancy. Our sonographers are experienced, unhurried, and genuinely invested in making your scan a positive experience. Whether it's your first glimpse of your baby or a detailed anatomy assessment, we take the time to explain what we're seeing and ensure you leave with clarity and confidence. Obstetric scans we offer Dating & Viability Scan — early confirmation of pregnancy, gestational age, and fetal heartbeat First Trimester Screening (11–13 weeks) — nuchal translucency measurement as part of combined screening for chromosomal conditions Mid-Trimester Anatomy Scan (18–20 weeks) — detailed assessment of fetal development, placental position, and amniotic fluid Growth & Wellbeing Scans — monitoring fetal size, position, and placental function in later pregnancy Cervical Length Assessment — for patients at risk of preterm labour A calm environment for an important moment We understand that not every scan comes with certainty, and that some appointments carry more anxiety than others. Our team is trained to hold space for that — to be technically precise without being clinical in manner, and to communicate findings clearly and compassionately. Results are reported by our senior radiologists and delivered promptly to your LMC, GP, or specialist, so your care team has what they need without delay. What to expect Before your scan Preparation depends on the type of scan and your stage of pregnancy. For most first and second trimester scans, a comfortably full bladder helps improve image clarity — as a general guide, drink around 500–600ml of water an hour before your appointment and avoid emptying your bladder beforehand. Your booking confirmation will include any specific instructions relevant to your scan. During your scan You'll lie comfortably on a padded table while the sonographer applies a small amount of warm gel to your abdomen and gently moves a handheld probe across the skin. The procedure is entirely painless. Most scans take between 20 and 45 minutes depending on the type of assessment — anatomy scans naturally take a little longer as there is more to assess. Your sonographer will talk you through what they're seeing where appropriate, though some findings will be formally reported by our radiologist and communicated to your referring clinician. After your scan You're free to resume normal activity immediately. Your report will be sent directly and securely to your LMC, midwife, GP, or specialist — typically on the same day or the following morning. Who can come with you? You are welcome to bring a support person or partner to your scan. We ask that you keep the number of accompanying guests to one or two to maintain a calm environment for all patients.

General & Diagnostic Ultrasound at Auckland X-Ray Services Ultrasound is one of the most versatile tools in diagnostic imaging — safe, radiation-free, and capable of revealing a remarkable amount of clinical detail in real time. At AXS, every ultrasound is performed on Philips EPIQ equipment, a platform chosen for its exceptional image resolution and sensitive doppler technology, and reported by senior radiologists with close to a century of combined specialist experience. Our sonographers are skilled clinicians, not technicians running through a checklist. They take the time to understand your history, explain the process, and ensure you're comfortable throughout. General ultrasound services we offer Abdominal Ultrasound — assessment of the liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, and bladder Renal & Urinary Tract — evaluation of kidney size, structure, and urinary flow Pelvic Ultrasound — assessment of the uterus, ovaries, and pelvic structures Scrotal & Testicular — evaluation of testicular health, varicoceles, and unexplained pain or swelling Hernia Assessment — identification and characterisation of inguinal, femoral, and abdominal wall hernias Soft Tissue & Lumps — assessment of superficial masses, cysts, and lymph nodes Vascular & Doppler — blood flow assessment using highly sensitive doppler technology for vessels of the neck, abdomen, and limbs Breast Ultrasound — detailed soft tissue evaluation, often used alongside or following mammography What makes our ultrasound different Because AXS is specialist-owned and operated, our radiologists are on-site and actively involved. If your scan raises a question that warrants further investigation — or if an ultrasound-guided procedure would be beneficial — it can often be coordinated the same day without the delays that come with larger, busier facilities. Your results are reported promptly and delivered securely to your GP or specialist, giving your clinical team what they need to move forward without unnecessary waiting. What to expect Before your scan Preparation varies depending on the area being examined. Abdominal scans typically require a period of fasting beforehand — usually four to six hours — to ensure the bowel isn't obscuring the view. Pelvic scans may require a full bladder. Your booking confirmation will include specific preparation instructions for your scan type.
