You'll lie on a padded table that moves gently into the scanner through a circular opening — the machine itself is open at both ends, though some patients do find the experience slightly confining. During the scan you'll feel nothing, but will be asked to stay still and hold your breath at certain points. A staff member will be in the adjacent control room throughout, monitoring continuously and speaking with you via intercom.
