What is Interventional Radiology?
Interventional radiologists use image guidance with pin-hole access to perform a wide range of treatments, including; uterine fibroid embolisation, prostate artery embolisation, varicocele embolisation, portacath placement, radiologically inserted gastrostomy, image guided biopsy, portal vein embolisation, nephrostomy, PICC line insertion, treatment of vascular malformations, and many more procedures.
Interventional radiology procedures allow patients to have a rapid recovery, shorter hospital stays and lower complication rates.
Why Interventional Radiology?
Interventional Radiology is an exciting and rapidly developing specialty using image guidance to perform treatment with ‘pin-hole’ access through the skin, for a growing number of conditions. Interventional radiology procedures allow patients to have a rapid recovery, shorter hospital stays and lower complication rates.

Under real-time imaging special particles can be used to block off the blood supply to tumours causing them to die off. Embolisation is part of well-established procedures to treat uterine fibroids (uterine artery embolisation), enlarged prostates (prostate artery embolisation) and renal tumours.
