Profile

James is a Specialist Bariatric and General Surgeon. Originally from Wellington, he completed medical school training through the University of Otago. He then trained in General Surgery at a variety of hospitals throughout New Zealand. Following this, James completed post-fellowship training in General Surgery at North Shore Hospital, Auckland, followed by sub-specialty training in Bariatric and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery at Austin Health, Melbourne. He has now returned to the Hawke’s Bay, where he also has a position in the public sector as a Consultant General Surgeon.

  • Bariatric surgery, including laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
  • Anti-reflux and hiatal hernia surgery
  • Laparoscopic and open hernia repair
