Profile
Dr Tyrie received her medical degree at the University of Otago before undertaking specialty training at Mount Vernon Hospital in London. She completed her specialty training at Waikato Hospital and held a radiation oncology consultant position there from 1996 until 2014. She has held several radiation oncology leadership positions including Director of Radiation Oncology and Radiation Oncology Training at Waikato Hospital.
Interests
Dr Tyrie is proficient in the use of 3D conformal radiation therapy (3DCRT), volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), image guided radiotherapy (IGRT) and in the use of high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy for the treatment of prostate cancer.
She has a particular interest in quality of life issues regarding the treatment of prostate cancer. Dr Tyrie has been actively involved in the national implementation of new technologies used to treat prostate and breast cancer, and has an ongoing commitment to research into these tumour sites. She continues to publish in peer reviewed journals and is the principal investigator for a number of ongoing collaborative research trials.
