Profile
Oliver Brake is a New Zealand trained haematologist who works as a full time clinical and part time laboratory haematologist for Bay of Plenty District Health Board. Oliver holds fellowships with both the Australasian College of Physicians and College of Pathologists. An Auckland Medical School graduate, Oliver completed haematology training in the Auckland region in 2019. Following this, he moved to the UK to undertake subspecialist training as a lymphoma fellow at University Hospital Southampton. This was followed by a consultant position. During this time, he was part of the lymphoid/lymphoma team and worked in an inpatient capacity within the wider service. He also recruited to, and held sub-investigator roles on numerous CLL, lymphoma and myeloma trials as well as several immunology/covid-19-related trials. Oliver continues active participation in the Bay of Plenty Clinical Trials Unit.
Oliver’s areas of expertise include general malignant haematology, as well as immune haematology conditions, and general diagnostic and laboratory haematology. His interests include a variety of lymphoid conditions including Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, CLL, as well as plasma cell and paraprotein disorders.
Oliver offers a warm and friendly approach to his patients. He enjoys explaining disease biology, treatment approaches, and extracting the relevant information from studies as it applies to the person in front of him.
Oliver enjoys the Bay lifestyle with his wife and two young daughters, including cycling to work, beach days and family bike rides. He tries to maintain a variety of summer and winter sports.
