Profile

Dr Parry Singh is a New Zealand trained General Surgeon and specialist Colorectal Surgeon who works as a Consultant at Counties Manukau Health (Middlemore Hospital and Manukau Superclinic).

Dr Singh obtained his medical degree from the University of Auckland with Distinction and completed specialist training in General Surgery through various hospitals across New Zealand to attain the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2018. He then went overseas to undertake further sub-speciality training in Colorectal Surgery accredited by the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ) at reputed colorectal units in Melbourne (Alfred Hospital) and Adelaide (Lyell McEwin Hospital).

Through this experience, he has gained expertise in treating a wide array of colorectal conditions ranging from complex problems related to colorectal (bowel) cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease), and diverticular disease; to the more common and troubling anorectal conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fistulas, anal fissures and pilonidal disease. This comes with experience in a range of advanced surgical procedures including minimal invasive techniques such as laparoscopy (key-hole surgery) as well as being accredited to perform colonoscopy through the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA). Alongside his subspecialist interest in colorectal surgery, Dr Singh provides acute care for patients presenting with a range of general surgical problems including appendicitis, hernias, gallstones, bowel obstruction and trauma.

Parry is also passionate about research having completed a PhD in surgery through the University of Auckland. He has a number of publications and has presented his work at numerous national and international conferences and been a recipient of several notable scholarships and awards including the prestigious Mark Killingback Prize in Colorectal Surgery and the Louis Barnett Prize for Research from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He is also enthusiastic about teaching of medical students, junior doctors and trainee surgeons and holds the title of Senior Lecturer with the Department of Surgery at the University of Auckland.

Parry was educated in Auckland and did his secondary schooling at Papatoetoe High School where he was a head prefect and is immensely proud of having grown up in South Auckland and being able to come back home after specialist training to care for the community that has given him so much. He was born in Punjab, India and is equally proud of his roots, being able to also speak in Punjabi and Hindi. With this background and growing up in the diverse and multi-cultural environment of Auckland, he enjoys being able to connect with people from different ethnic, cultural, and social backgrounds. Outside of work, Parry is equally enthusiastic about exploring the outdoors and being involved in sport, especially cricket and hockey, and spending time with his family.
