Profile

Dr Carter graduated from the University of Auckland School of Medicine in 1995.

She completed her early paediatric training in Hawkes Bay and the Auckland region before moving to Dunedin to undertake a longitudinal research project which subsequently led to her PhD thesis entitled The Early Risk Factors for the Development of Overweight and Obesity in Childhood.

She returned to Auckland to complete her advanced training in Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes and was awarded her FRACP in 2008. Following this, Dr Carter spent time overseas, including gaining further experience in Paediatric Endocrinology at the Hospital for Sick Children (Sick Kids) in Toronto, Canada.

Dr Carter has been a consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist and Diabetologist at Starship Children’s Hospital since 2011. She is a current member and past chair of the NZCYCN Diabetes Network and is the current Paediatric representative on the RACP Special Advisory Committee for Endocrine training.
