Dr Rebecca Stack is an experienced cataract surgeon with a subspecialty interest in oculoplastic (eyelid), orbital and lacrimal (tear drainage) surgery. She undertakes both reconstructive surgery following cancer and trauma, as well as cosmetic eyelid procedures.

Rebecca graduated with distinction from Otago Medical School in 1999 and gained fellowship with the Royal Australian and NZ College of Ophthalmologists in 2007. She also completed a Master of Medical Sciences (Otago) degree with a thesis on imaging in thyroid eye disease, and has had other scientific papers published in peer reviewed journals. She was successful in securing further subspecialty training in oculoplastic and orbital surgery at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, with Mr Geoffrey Rose.

In 2008 Rebecca returned to Christchurch as a consultant at Southern Eye Specialists and Christchurch Hospital, where she is involved in the teaching of junior ophthalmologists. She is a member of a number of colleges and societies including the Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) and the Australia and NZ Society of Oculoplastic Surgeons. She is an examiner of registrars for the college.

Rebecca has travelled to the Pacific Islands to provide cataract surgery and eye care as a volunteer for VOSO (Volunteer Ophthalmic Services Overseas) and undertakes work for the Charity Hospital in Christchurch.

For her efforts developing Christchurch Eye Surgery, the South Island’s only purpose built eye facility, Rebecca has been awarded the Supreme Award for the Flybuys Mumtrepreneur of the year. She is also involved in the Ministry for Women’s Affairs as a mentor for women in leadership.

In her spare time, Rebecca enjoys spending time with her husband and children on the farm, or skiing and cycling round the South Island.
