Profile

Dr Stuart Carroll completed his medical degree at the University of Auckland in 2000, and was awarded the Calvin Ring Prize in Ophthalmology during his undergraduate years.

His training in ophthalmology began with an Optic Nerve and Neurophthalmology research fellowship, followed by general ophthalmology training completed in Auckland and Hamilton.

Stuart is keenly involved in the training of young ophthalmologists and acts as an examiner for the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists training programme. He is involved in international development for ophthalmology with the non-profit group Sight For All, and regularly travels to teach paediatric ophthalmology in developing countries. He is a reviewer for several peer-reviewed scientific journals, has published over a dozen scientific papers and presented at international meetings.

After completing training Stuart was awarded two scholarships, and undertook two years of further training in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, at the prestigious Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, and the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.
