Title of Thesis: Anatomical and physiological characterisation of a novel porcine model for varicose veins
Postgraduate research degree involving laboratory-based translational surgical research. The thesis developed and validated a large-animal (porcine) model of chronic venous disease, examining venous anatomy, valve competence, haemodynamics, and vein wall remodelling under conditions of sustained venous hypertension. The work demonstrated that varicose veins represent a combined disorder of venous valve failure and intrinsic vein wall pathology, providing a platform for further investigation into surgical and endovascular interventions.
