Auckland Veins offers non-surgical and surgical varicose vein treatment with expertise and care.
Our varicose vein specialist, Dr Giri Mahadevan, has extensive experience in assessing and treating venous disorders and will develop an individualised treatment plan for you.

Referral

The majority of insurance companies require you to have a referral from your General Practitioner to process your claims.

You will need to make an appointment for a clinical consultation.

We welcome patient self-referral

Referral Expectations

You will have an initial consultation with Dr Mahadevan during which he will take your medical history and examine you to assess your circulation and distribution of your varicose veins. If treatment is considered, you will be sent for an ultrasound scan, after which you will have a follow-up appointment with Dr Mahadevan to discuss the best treatment option for you.

Follow up consultations post procedures do not incur any charges.

We are an approved provider for insurance companies including Southern Cross and nib.

Thermal Ablation

This technique uses heat to seal the affected leg vein shut. The two main devices used are laser (EVLT) and radiofrequency (RFA). They both generate heat from their respective sources to seal the vein on the inside. Read more about laser (EVLT) here and radiofrequency treatment here

Surgical Removal

Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia or spinal anaesthetic. Small incisions are made, and the leg veins physically removed. Read more about Surgical removal of veins here

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy involves the injection of a small amount of a detergent-like drug to damage the inside of the leg vein. Compression bandages or stockings are then applied for two weeks to seal the vein shut. Read more about Sclerotherapy here

Adhesive (Glue) Treatment
