Profile

Richard Douglas is a specialist ORL surgeon with clinical and research interests in nasal, sinus and medial skull base conditions. He is a consultant surgeon at Gillies and Auckland City Hospitals and is a Professor of Surgery at The University of Auckland.

He trained in medicine and surgery at the University of Auckland, graduating in 1986. After qualification and completing his house officer years, he spent three years undertaking doctoral research toward an MD degree. He spent two years in the UK where he passed the MRCP exams and then completed his FRACP training in Auckland before leaving for Melbourne for a fellowship in Clinical Immunology and Allergy at The Alfred Hospital. He returned to be the Clinical Director of the Clinical Immunology and Allergy Service at Auckland Hospital. He held this post for three years before deciding to pursue training in ORL surgery. This was undertaken in Auckland and Hamilton, and in 2005 he completed a specialist rhinology and skull base fellowship in Adelaide.
