The Acute Allied Health Team at Middlemore Hospital and Manukau SuperClinic provides both inpatient and outpatient services and is made up of staff from the following disciplines:

Fees and Charges Description

There are no charges for services to public patients if you are lawfully in New Zealand and meet one of the Eligibility Directions specified criteria set by the Ministry of Health.  If you do not meet the criteria, you will be required to pay for the full costs of any medical treatment you receive during your stay. To check whether you meet the specified eligibility criteria, visit the Ministry of Health website.

There may be charges for outpatient equipment in relation to treatment.

Burns & Plastics

The Occupational Therapists & Physiotherapist are part of a dedicated team and provide both an Acute & Rehabilitative outpatient service for burns victims and for patients following surgery.

Hand Therapy

Hand Therapists are registered Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists who are specialised in assessing and treating injury and non-injury related conditions of the hand, wrist, forearm and elbow. This outpatient clinic is located in Module 5 at Manukau SuperClinic™ . Inclusion Criteria New Zealand residents (adults and children) who live within the Counties Manukau region with any of the following conditions: Trauma of the hand, wrist, forearm and elbow. Non traumatic conditions of the hand, wrist, forearm and elbow (e.g. osteoarthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, De Quervain’s, Dupuytren’s contracture, trigger finger, etc.). Rheumatology patients following surgical procedures to the hand, wrist, elbow or upon referral from Rheumatology OT. Brachial plexus injuries. Congenital hand deformities. Exclusion Criteria Gross movement / pain anomalies of neurological cause such as CVA, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy etc. (except where those patients have undergone a corrective surgical procedure at Counties Manukau Health). Anomalies of neurological cause who have received Botox injections. Shoulder injuries / conditions. Rheumatology patients (except those who have undergone surgical procedures at CMH). Carpal tunnel syndrome and De Quervain’s associated with pregnancy (these patients will be seen by the women’s health physiotherapist). Non New Zealand residents. Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme

8 week exercise, education and 3 group programme for medical cardiac and post surgical cardiac patients. Individual pre/post assessments.

Paediatric Dietetics

Paediatric dietitians are active members of the multidisciplinary team and participate in the multidisciplinary meetings, ward rounds and clinics. Nutrition assessment, planning, implementation and monitoring of nutrition care plans, as well as nutrition education and counselling are integral to providing a quality service. Our primary focus in the paediatric wards and neonatal unit is to provide acute care. Patients can be followed up after discharge from hospital, by either a home visit or clinic appointment with the community paediatric dietitian.

Speech & Language

We work as part of the multidisciplinary team and see patients on a referral basis regarding disorders of speech, language, voice and cognition as well as swallowing difficulties (dysphagia). In acute care the focus is on diagnosis and early management of these disorder groups.
