Public Service, Gynaecology
Description
Lakes District Health Board has a team of eight Consultant Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, who are supported by O&G Registrars, Senior House Officers and nursing staff.
The team works with inpatients at Rotorua Hospital as well as running scheduled outpatient clinics. An acute on-call service is provided via a 24-7 roster.
Where to find us: see here for the Rotorua Hospital map.
A visiting outpatient service is also provided at Taupō Hospital where we offer regular gynaecology and antenatal clinics.
What is Gynaecology?
Gynaecology is the area of medicine that deals with health issues and conditions that are specific to women. This generally includes the female reproductive organs and genitalia. The reproductive organs consist of the ovaries, the fallopian tubes that lead from the ovaries, the uterus (womb), which is where a baby may grow if the egg is fertilised, the cervix (neck of the uterus) and the vagina.
