All hospital inpatients need medicines as part of their treatment plan - whether for acute illness, chronic disease management, symptom relief, prevention of complications, or perioperative care - meaning timely access to safe, appropriate and optimised pharmacotherapy is essential to high-quality hospital care.
The Inpatient Pharmacy Service exists to ensure safe, effective and efficient use of medicines across all inpatient settings. The service supports improved clinical outcomes, reduces medication-related harm, enhances patient experience, and enables hospital flow through accurate medicines reconciliation, evidenced-based and patient-focused clinical review and timely discharge support.
Inpatient Dispensary: Middlemore Hospital Pharmacy supplies medications to all inpatients of Middlemore Hospital and other Counties Manukau Health facilities (Manukau Health Park, Pukekohe Hospital, Auckland Spinal Rehabilitation Unit).
