Description

The Counties Manukau Health Wound Care Service aims to provide a comprehensive consultation, assessing individuals who present with non-healing wounds and / or are in need of advanced wound care practices / therapies.

This service is run from Middlemore Hospital both for inpatients and outpatients via the Complex Wound Clinic. It is located on the 1st floor of the Galbraith Building, Middlemore Hospital.

For individuals who are unable to attend the outpatient clinic or for clinicians who need wound care advice the service also facilitates a virtual complex wound clinic once a week.

Who Can Refer:
Referrals are accepted from GPs, District Nurses, Aged Care Facility staff, Hospital staff and Outpatient services. 

Please note: Referrals to the Complex Wound Clinic are reserved for individuals that live within the boundaries of Counties Manukau Health.

How to Refer:
Complex Wound Clinic: When making a referral to the Complex Wound Clinic please complete the Complex Wound Clinic referral document (see below) and  send to .

Virtual Wound Clinic: When making a referral to the Virtual Complex Wound Clinic please complete the below "Virtual Complex Wound Clinic Assessment" form (include a recent photograph of the wound) and send to .

Procedures / Treatments

Complex Wound Clinic

The Complex Wound Clinic is facilitated by the DHB's Wound Care Nurse Specialists who aim to provide a comprehensive consultation, assessing individuals that present with non-healing wounds and / or are in need of advanced wound care practices / therapies. The following services are offered by the Complex Wound Clinic: Conservative Sharp Debridement This procedure is undertaken by an accredited Registered Nurse within the clinic setting. As this is the case restrictions are in place as to the extent of wound debridement. This form of debridement involves removing non-viable tissue in layers and often involves the use of autolytic debridement through the use of moisture managing wound care products between procedures. Complex Wound Assessment The Complex Wound Clinic can provide support and advice for community based clinicians caring for patients with complex wounds. These wounds are not exclusive to but may include: pressure injuries, lower leg ulcers, post surgical dehiscence etc. Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) The Complex Wound Clinic offers support with the assessment/review of wounds in need of or currently receiving NPWT.
