Referral Process
Staff at Tauranga Hospital may ask the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service to see you if you:
- have been admitted to Tauranga Hospital Emergency Department with severe mental health issues and physical complications of self-harm, suicidal or at risk behaviours
- are currently staying in hospital and are also experiencing mental health issues
- are coming to hospital clinics for a medical condition and are also experiencing mental health issues
Description
The Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service works with patients at Tauranga Hospital to support mental health needs alongside medical or surgical treatment.
What to expect
If you are admitted through Tauranga Hospital Emergency Department with a severe mental health issue, have self-harmed or have suicidal thoughts, the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service will work with the Acute Care Team to provide assessment and treatment recommendations.
If you are staying in hospital for medical or surgical treatment and you experience mental health issues during your stay, the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service will work with the hospital team to provide assessment and treatment.
If you are coming to hospital clinics for a medical condition and are also experiencing mental health issues, your medical team may refer you to see the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service for assessment and treatment.
