Auckland Regional Minor Skin Surgery Scheme: Skin Lesion Removal by Contracted GPs
From time to time, the metro Auckland DHBs look to recruit more GPs into the minor skin surgery programme. This is usually to expand the coverage of the existing programme within specified areas.

Background
Hundreds of Auckland skin cancer patients, who have been referred by their GPs to the hospital for treatment, will now have their minor skin surgery performed in general practice settings. Twenty-one GPs with particular expertise in skin surgery have been contracted to perform the surgery throughout Auckland.
This scheme covers the full Auckland region and standardises the referral pathway for skin cancer to DHB services. Given the increasing burden of skin cancer in our population, this will help to ensure patients are treated quickly and safely – whether in general practice or hospital settings.
