General Practice

General practitioners (GPs) - your family doctor - and the nurses and pharmacists they work with should be the first health professionals you contact when feeling unwell.

GPs provide primary healthcare, which covers a broad range of out-of-hospital services including general wellness, health education and counselling, disease prevention and screening, foot health, oral health, and on-going care for those with chronic conditions.

Some of the region’s GP practices publish information about their services on the internet – find out if the GPs in your area are online. Waitematā DHB is currently working with the PHOs to assist in getting more of their GP practices online.
