Formerly Southern DHB Child Development Service - Vera Hayward Centre
The Ratoka Whakawhanake Tamaiti (Child Development Service) at the Vera Hayward Centre provides therapy for tamariki who meet disability criteria. For example, we work with tamariki with Developmental Delay, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome and chromosomal differences.
We also provide a NICU follow-up programme to tamariki who meet the criteria for this service.
We work primarily with children until they start school, when they are referred to other services to support them in school if needed. School age children are also sometimes eligible to access the service.

How do I access this service?
Referral
We accept referrals for tamariki under 5 years of age who meet our criteria, from whānau (parents) and community service providers.
We provide some services for tamariki aged 5 - 16 years. Referrals for these children are via a paediatrician.
