Description

Māori Counselling Service (Te Ātea Marinō)

We are a team of Māori workers who are available to support Tangata Whaiora and their whānau with any substance misuse issues.

At Te Ātea Marinō we offer you a range of support, counselling, and consultation options in a culturally appropriate treatment environment.

Description

CADS Medically Managed Withdrawal Services are for people who have a physical dependence on alcohol and other drugs (e.g. methamphetamines, benzos, opiates) and who require medical support to withdraw from or reduce their use or to stabilise on medications.

Physical dependence is when people:

• need to increase how much they take to get the same effect
• experience physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms if they stop drinking or using drugs.

CADS provide medically managed withdrawal support through two services:

• CHDS/Community and Home Detox Service which supports people at home or elsewhere in the community
• The inpatient unit for people who need 24 hour medical supervision.

About the inpatient unit

Our unit has moved to Auckland City Mission HomeGround in Hobson St, Auckland central. Each client has their own lockable bedroom with en suite bathroom. There is a shared dining space, client lounge and group room, and a separate TV room. Private spaces are available where clients can meet their visitors.

Description

Opiate/Opioid Substitution Treatment (OST) is well researched as an effective and successful treatment for opioid dependence.

People addicted to opioids/opiates often experience problems - physical, psychological and social. Through medication and support, people can achieve stability in their lives.

In treating opioid addiction the Auckland Opioid Treatment Service (AOTS) prescribes fully funded methadone/ Suboxone® and provides support through a team of doctors, key workers, pharmacists, GPs and other health professionals and agencies. Ongoing treatment or short-term reduction plans are available, depending on your needs.

To make referrals to the service:

• Anyone can refer to Altered High but it is preferable that young people refer themselves to support engagement.
• The young person must consent to and be involved in the referral process.
• Our Enquiry & Referral line can be contacted on 027 462 4580 (call and text) or free call CADS Call Centre on 0800 845 1818 asking for ‘Youth Team’. One of our youth clinicians will take your call, explain more about the service, answer any questions, and take the referral if appropriate.

Description

Altered High is for young people aged 13 - 19 and their family/whānau within the wider Auckland region, who have concerns about their own or someone else’s alcohol and/or other drug use.

We provide:

• Confidential face to face counselling, as well as options of virtual service via video-call sessions and phone sessions.
• Youth friendly and developmentally appropriate interventions.
• Up to date alcohol and other drug resources for young people.
• Mobility – we travel to our clients. We are not office based thus we see youth where or near to where they are; at school/course, home, a CADS unit or other community settings.
• Awareness, assessment and support for co-existing mental health issues occurring for youth within our service, as part of their substance use counselling and treatment.
• Support and counselling for youth who are impacted by a parent or other whānau member's substance abuse (may not or may use substances themselves).
• Rainbow LGBT  focus clinician.
• Groups tailored to identified/assessed needs for youth in our service.
• Whānau Group for concerned and impacted families/caregivers in their own right [see attached Brochure], with individual support where needed (whether their young person is with our service or not)

Description

This service provides assessment, information and support for pregnant women and children under 3 years of age.

We aim to improve the life outcomes for unborn babies and children under the age of 3 by working with pregnant women and parents with issues around alcohol and drugs.

We can:

• provide information on the effects of alcohol and other drug use in relation to pregnancy and parenting
• help you access antenatal care, parenting support, alcohol/other drug treatment and other community and health services
• coordinate services to work together so that your needs are best met.

We can meet you in the community or wherever is most suitable for you.

Description

Not everyone with an alcohol or drug problem can afford either the time or money to seek residential treatment.  CADS Abstinence Programme provides similar support with an abstinence based intensive outpatient programme.

It is for people who have a desire and a willingness to be abstinent (without) from drugs and alcohol, and are committed to attending nine hours a week of group work over an eight week period.

CADS Abstinence Programme also provides a long-term continuing care programme.

Description

CADS provides counselling and group support and information to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, Takataapui, Fa’afafine and Intersex (Rainbow) communities in Auckland. All CADS clinicians have received training in working effectively with Rainbow people.

CADS have a same-sex attraction clinician in the youth service (Altered High) and a designated Rainbow clinician in the adult counselling service.
