Referral Process

If you are experiencing an eating disorder and would like to receive help, ask your GP to make a referral to your local Community Mental Health Team, for assessment and treatment advice.  If you are worried about someone else who you suspect may have an eating disorder, please contact EDANZ or Eating Disorder Liaison.

Description

Early identification in primary health is vital to enable access to the appropriate mental health or medical service.  This is not always easy as many people suffering from eating disorders prefer to keep symptoms hidden and do not always welcome intervention.  However, eating disorders are serious medical and psychiatric conditions that in some cases can be terminal.
