Vision statement
Improving Lives through Responsive Forensic Services: Mauri Ora! Mauri Kaha!
Mission statement
To achieve a world leading health service with people who have a serious mental health problem and/or intellectual disability within the context of criminal offending. Our service excellence rests on the pillars of our knowledge, professionalism and values.
Our Service
The Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service (ARFPS) strives to provide a high quality, clinical, culturally responsive, and evidence-based specialist forensic mental health service to the Northern region of New Zealand.
We provide all inpatient care for people needing secure forensic services, follow up in the community as needed, and provide assistance to the broader mental health services regarding issues of risk and treatment.
The ARFPS is made up of different sub-service and specialist service areas, each with unique models of care that operate alongside our broader service wide framework. These are:
Court Liaison Service
Prison Mental Health Services
Inpatient Services
Forensic Community Reintegration Service (FCRS)
Intellectual Disability Services
Tari Kaupapa Māori
Pacific People Services
These subservices form an overall pathway of recovery through shared values, core documentation, agreed milestones and a coordinated and integrated managed care programme under an overarching vision of “improving lives through responsive forensic services – mauri ora mauri kaha”
Referral Expectations
ARFPS is a specialist service and does not accept referrals directly from the public. Our referrals typically come from prisons within our service mandate, although less frequently we may accept referrals for justice involved people from other sources, such as general adult inpatient mental health units or forensic services elsewhere in the country.
Hours
Mon – Fri | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM |
---|
All visits on site are to be arranged through authorised staff. All visits to patients in secure units are to be arranged through the unit.
Auckland Regional Forensic Services have a catchment area from the Bombay Hills in the south to the top of the North Island for general mental illness and, for offenders with an intellectual disability, from Taupō to the top of the North Island.
Visiting Hours
ARFPS inpatient services consist of nine forensic mental health inpatient units. Each unit has specified visiting hours and durations, which reflects the differing acuity within the units. Please contact inpatient units directly for further information for visiting your whānau/family.
