About the Service
Mental Health Services for Older Adults (MHSOA) is a service for service users aged 65 and over and is provided in both an inpatient and community setting. The service is provided on the North Shore, and in Rodney District and West Auckland.
This team is part of the division of Specialist Mental Health and Addiction Services. The MHSOA team maintains strong professional links to the Mental Health Services Group.

Programmes
MHSOA provides assessment, treatment and support to: People with serious mental disorder, aged 65 or older, newly presenting to local mental health services or who have not been under the care of other local mental health services for two years People of any age, with primary dementia and serious behavioural and/ or psychological symptoms and signs People with pre-existing serious mental health disorders who would be better cared for by MHSOA, either because of significant medical co-morbidities or frailty, or (less commonly) due to psychological or social issues typical of those seen by MHSOA. There are three community teams – two on the North Shore covering Rodney District as well as North Shore and one in West Auckland – who work collaboratively with the inpatient teams.
