Profile

Andrew is a consultant general and colorectal surgeon, a trained surgical endoscopist and is based in Te Tai Tokerau.

He moved to New Zealand, with his wife in 2022.

Andrew trained in the General and Colorectal Surgery and Endoscopy in the United Kingdom. He completed a fellowship in Perth, Western Australia before taking up a consultant post in General and Colorectal Surgery at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust in 2001.

He has extensive leadership experience as Head of Department of Surgery. He has held regional and national posts within the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh.

He has broad clinical interests with specialist expertise in colorectal surgery, both open and laparoscopic. He was appointed as a National Bowel Cancer Screening Colonoscopist in the UK in 2018 after examination and continues in that role in New Zealand.

Appointed as Associate Professor of Cancer Studies and Medical Education at the University of Leicester in 2017; Fellow of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2017, Andrew has a keen interest in Education and Training. He has a national (UK) and international reputation for surgical education, in particular in human factors and non-technical skills and training in laparoscopic surgery and colonoscopy.

Outside of work, Andrew enjoys road cycling, swimming and skiing. He also enjoys playing his guitars.
