Post-Fellowship Training

Michael did his medical training at the Auckland Medical School and has travelled overseas completing fellowships in Toronto, Canada; Wrightington Hospital, Manchester, England and Brisbane Hospital, Brisbane, Australia.

In Toronto, from June – December 2008, he undertook a fellowship at Western Hospital. This is the leading hand unit in Toronto, specialising in replantations and complex hand problems.

From January – June 2009 he undertook a fellowship at Wrightington Hospital, Manchester. This hospital is renowned as being the first in the world to undertake the first Charnley procedure (total hip joint replacement). He worked with Professor Stanley in the Upper Limb Unit – covering hand wrist and elbow specialties and with Mr Ian Traill who is a world leader in orthopaedics.

From July 2009 – June 2010 he undertook a fellowship at Brisbane Hospital and worked with Mark Ross who is one of the leading upper limb specialists in Australasia and his colleagues.

He has also undertaken extensive fellowships in New Zealand with leading upper limb specialists.
