All of our services are focused on relationship building and are community-based.

Our parent education programmes are provided across South Auckland.

  • Hoki ki te Rito-Oranga Whānau, Mellow Parenting is for parents and children experiencing relationship difficulties where attachment issues may exist for parents of children 0-5 years old.  
  • Incredible Years for parents of children 3-8 years old.
  • Incredible Years Autism.
  • Mellow Bumps, an antenatal attachment based programme.
  • More Than Words for parents and whānau of children with social communication difficulties

Our early intervention service for children with special needs and their whānau is provided in the home and in kohanga reo and early childhood centres in Tamaki Makaurau.

How do I access this service?

Referral

We accept agency referrals and direct inquiries from parents and whānau members. We have found that many parents are recommended by family or friends who have used our services.  All inquiries are welcome. Children with high and very high developmental needs meet our criteria for our early intervention services.

Early Intervention team have Early Intervention Teachers, Speech and Language Therapists and Psychologists to support whānau with children (0-6 yrs) who have special needs. We provide professional development for the Education Support Workers we employ. We can provide specific professional development for early childhood centre teams, community based service providers as negotiated.

Employment support

We employ Education Support Workers to support individual children in early childhood centres, and run children's groups for children whose parents are attending parenting programmes. Pregnancy and parenting

Early Intervention Service for preschool children with high-very high special needs. Early Intervention Teachers, Speech Language Therapists, Psychologists and Educaton Support Workers. Mellow Bumps Antenatal Programme for expectant parents who would like to know more about their developing baby. Whanau support is encouraged and welcome. Suitable for women between 20-30 weeks pregnancy, and their supporters, who will benefit from this attachment based programme. Mellow Parenting / Hoki ki te Rito - Oranga Whanau intensive parenting programme aims to support parents experiencing relationship difficulties with their children and are at risk of losing custody of their children, or are working towards reunification. Children aged 0-5 weeks old. Transport, childcare, catering provided. Incredible Years Parenting Programme for parents of children 3-8 years old who would like ot learn new parenting strategies to support their children's behaviour positively. Incredible Years Autism Parenting Programme for parents and families of children aged 2-5 years old on the Autism Spectrum. This programme helps support the key adults in the lives of children on the autism spectrum to develop skills and confidence in promoting their children’s emotional regulation, positive social interactions, language development and relationships with others. More Than Words for parents with children who have social communication difficulties. EarlyBird parent education programme for families with children 0-5yrs recently diagnosed with autism (ASD).

Ohomairangi Trust supports young children with special needs who attend Maori immersion kohanga reo, puna reo, and those who are transitioning into Kura Kaupapa Maori. We are open to negotiating professional development where required to support staff teams, whānau and respite carers. Ohomairangi Trust supports parents with parenting programmes which are culturally responsive to the participants
