Manaaki Tāngata | Victim Support provides a free, nationwide support service for people affected by crime, suicide and traumatic events in Aotearoa New Zealand. We support victims at every step of their journey, 24/7, with heart.
A crime does not have to be reported to receive support.
Our support workers provide:
- someone to listen, talk with, and support you to cope through crime, trauma, and loss
- help to answer your questions, understand your rights, and make informed choices
- someone to assist and support you at court trials, hearings, and dealing with Police and other government agencies
- help to access local support services and counselling to suit your situation
- safety planning and support for people affected by family violence and harm
- help to prepare Victim Impact Statements and attend family group or restorative justice conferences, and Parole Board hearings
- financial assistance for victims of serious crime, including sexual violence.

Family violence support
- Nationwide crisis support services for victims/survivors of family violence (all genders).
- Advice about and referral to other services and support available to victims/survivors of family violence.
- Court support, including assistance with Victim Impact Statements and support for restorative justice and family group conferences.
- Financial assistance for victims of serious crime.
- Auckland, Counties Manukau, Waikato, and Canterbury - family violence intervention services, including family safety planning for male and female victims of family violence.

Support after suicide
- Nationwide 24/7 crisis support from a specialist support worker for people affected by suicide, including friends, whānau, witnesses, and discoverers of the suicide.
- Information and assistance with the coronial process and support at inquests.
- Free emotional and social support after suicide and referral to pre-approved counselling services.
- Practical support dealing with Police and other authorities, organising specialist cleaning services, and other support as needed during crisis.

- Help to access local services to suit your situation.
- Practical support and assistance to deal with things like funeral and coronial processes.
- Someone to assist and support you at court trials, hearings, parole hearings, and dealing with Police or other government agencies.
- Help to prepare Victim Impact Statements or other important documentation.
- Financial assistance for victims of homicide to assist with your general costs towards recovery, and participation in the justice process.
