Established in 1983, and the only private surgical hospital in the city, our hospital provides services to around 4500 patients each year.

A programme of extensive modernisation and facility upgrades has enabled the hospital to offer a wide range of services to patients in the wider Taranaki region.  The hospital features advanced theatres and comfortable patient  facilities, and currently has 37 inpatient beds, and a day-stay facility that caters for 10 patients at any time.

We deliver quality care, not only to Southern Cross members, but also to patients with other forms of private insurance cover.  Increasingly, we provide services to those choosing to fund their surgery themselves, and to patients being funded by ACC and other public funding arrangements.

Here’s what you can expect from Southern Cross Hospital New Plymouth:

• To make your stay as comfortable as possible, rooms for overnight stay have an ensuite, television and radio. Some rooms open out directly onto private courtyard gardens.
• We have a modern day-stay facility for those who do not require staying overnight.
• We have a professional nursing team focused on providing a high standard of care and comfort during your stay.
• We provide nourishing, quality meals for overnight patients and can cater for special dietary requirements on request. We can also arrange visitor meals for a reasonable charge, if requested early in the day.
• We deliver complimentary daily newspapers.
• Visiting hours are 10am to 8pm but special arrangements can be made at your request. Please let us know if we can support you in limiting your visitors. We aim to ensure a restful and private environment for all our patients. Please avoid meal times if possible.
• Ample visitor parking.
• Pleasant grounds and gardens surround the hospital.
