Description

Āwhina House operates under He Kaupapa Kotahitanga Trust, Tauranga, as a charitable organisation providing transitional housing support for women experiencing homelessness.

Āwhina House is not an emergency night shelter. Our service is designed to support women over a period of time to create sustainable, long-term change in their lives.

We are committed to:

Supporting women to break the cycle of homelessness
Providing structured support that fosters independence and stability
Assisting residents to transition into appropriate long-term housing
Encouraging personal development, goal setting, and wellbeing

Service Scope

Āwhina House provides accommodation and support for women only
We are not able to accommodate children within the residence
Applicants must be suitable for shared living in a structured environment

How do I access this service?

Referral

Referrals to Awhina House are made via MSD. Phone 0800 559 009 or visit your local Work & Income service office. At Awhina House homeless women are nurtured, supported and advocated for.

Services Provided

Accommodation and housing support

Accommodation: We have 11 transitional housing beds in our Tauranga residence. Women stay with us for a 12-week period, while we support them to find permanent accommodation. Support: We provide a wraparound support service without judgement. We are connected with a range of local services. Note: Awhina House is only able to support women alone. We are not able to accommodate children in our residence.

Advocacy

Advocacy services can support you or work on your behalf when you are accessing health or social services. This can include listening to your concerns, talking through options with you and coming with you to appointments.
