Dr Simon Brebner

General Practitioner

Qualifications

MB ChB 1989 Otago; FRNZCGP 2002

Profile

I am a born and bred Kiwi and have been living in Wanaka since 1995.

Originally a ski field Doctor at Treble Cone, I joined Aspiring Medical Centre in 1998. I gained a Diploma of Sports Medicine in 2000 and I am accredited provider with NZ Academy of Sport. For a number of years I was the Medical Director of the New Zealand’s Winter Olympic Performance Programme, helping to patch up the athletes as quickly as they broke themselves.

As well as this focus on sports and musculo-skeletal medicine, I have trained for specialisation in minor surgery such as vasectomy and more complicated minor procedures.

More recently I have taken on a GP with Special Interest (GPSI) role with ACC where I can refer directly for MRI/ CT without the patient needing to be referred to a Specialist. This is a great help for patients to get a diagnosis and appropriate treatment quickly

I combine these interests with my day-to-day general practice.

I enjoy a large number of sports and activities, a good consultation room natter and have some crazy little toys for children to play with.
