What is pharmacist only or restricted medicine?

Pharmacist-only or restricted medicines are a selection of medicines that can be purchased from a pharmacist without a doctor's prescription. They are not on display within a pharmacy and you cannot select them yourself. They are usually stored behind the counter or in the dispensary and must be purchased directly from a pharmacist. The pharmacist must fulfil some special requirements to ensure that you are properly informed about the safe and correct use of your medicine and that it is being used for the intended purpose.
